Study in Switzerland from Nepal and India

National (D) visa and cantonal residence permit for education (Art. 27 AIG)

Indian and Nepali students apply at the Swiss embassy for a national D visa, which is issued only after the cantonal migration office for the place of study approves; processing takes about 8–12 weeks and each canton sets its own proof-of-funds practice. From six months after starting, university students may work up to 15 hours a week in term time, and graduates of Swiss universities are admitted for six months to look for a job.

Check these yourself

We could not confirm these on an official page when we last checked, so we do not state them as facts.

  • Proof-of-funds amount — each canton sets it; ask the migration office of the canton where you will study.
  • Whether the Embassy in Kathmandu waives the visa fee for students as New Delhi does.
  • Whether you pay the €90 visa fee in New Delhi — the student checklist says student visas are free, but the page lists €90; confirm when you book.
  • Tuition at universities other than ETH Zurich.

Flight, hotel and itinerary documents for visa files

Some embassies ask for a flight itinerary or a hotel reservation with a visa application. We prepare them as reservation documents (PDFs), so you don’t buy a ticket before your visa is decided.

Need more than one? See the bundles

For a student visa: most embassies need your real admission letter and, often, a real accommodation contract. Use these documents only where your embassy’s checklist accepts a reservation or an itinerary.

Embassy requirements differ: many accept an itinerary document, some ask for a held airline reservation. Check your embassy's checklist before you apply. The reference number is a Yatra For Fun document number, not an airline PNR, so it will not appear on an airline's Manage Booking page.
